Chippy Tea and Quiz

Well what a night. Julie Dolman and her team of enthusiastic helpers not only organised a great chippy tea but also sorted the weather for the evening! As one of our new members commented afterwards. We thought we were joining a sailing club, but we have joined a community.

Over 50 members, families and friends turned out and had a great evening. Once the food was out of the way, and hot drinks and snacks were sorted by Ron and Dot, then it was on to Gaz Henshalls quiz!

Round one saw some very blank looks from some very experienced sailors as Gaz challenged the teams to decode a series of phrases written in the oh so familiar international maritime signal flags! Although the Eurovision Song Contest is a weekend or so away there were quite a few nil points around the room for round one!

Some of the more persistent quizzers realised Shotwick Lake was one phrase and used their best detective skills to work out the rest. Thanks Gaz…

Gaz did a great job of mixing sailing and general questions over the eight rounds of the quiz - his badly described film descriptions proved very popular!

At the end of the night it came down to a head-to-head between two teams of regular racers at the club, with the Commodores team, The Dossers, being well beaten into second place by a very determined team going by the name, Gaz told us the answers yesterday, who steamed through on starboard or at least thats what they were shouting! The final podium place was taken by The Vikings, a tour yet to hit the racing scene…

Keep an eye on the clubs social media as it wont be long before more Friday social events will be organised.
