Heroes!

Wednesday night racing got under way at Shotwick Lake with a lively evening of sailing and several swimmers in the lake - the first race in the evening Twilight Series on the 1st April. However there was no need to worry as the first female only safety boat crew were on-hand to keep everyone safe and still find time to support one of our younger members who braved the weather and received some on-the-water coaching from the safety boat duo! It was also our first Laser-lockout filling the podium positions.
After the race Vicki was happy to share her experience:
An evening of firsts!
15 racers and crew braved the blustery conditions for the first race in the Windward Twilight Series. Jude Stratton stepped in at late notice to fill the safety boat crew position which made it a Shotwick first with an all female safety boat team. Jude was a welcome support as I helmed for just the second time for a race. This really boosted my confidence as she guided me through various scenarios as I got to put into practice the skills learned recently on my PB2 course.
Sylvia (Cornwell) did an amazing job conquering her fears and getting stuck in. We shadowed her for the first lap and cheered her on, you could see the confidence growing. She negotiated the course well and finished the race, well done Sylvia! The second half of the race saw the wind kick up with significant gusts coming through with a downpour to top things off nicely. This brought a steady stream of customers needing support and we happily obliged.
A great first race of the windward twilight series, well done all those that took part.
Twilight Series race 1: 1.Mark Nield (Laser) 1pt, 2. Gwyn Jones (Laser) 2pts, 3. Ian Duncan (Laser) 3pts.
Sadly no pics of the dynamic duo in action!
