Trophy award
Published 12:17 on 8 Apr 2026
Members and visitors to Shotwick Lake Sailing might have noticed the diverse range of trophies on display. Most are linked to various series in the past and have not been awarded for many years. That is about to change.
Following a review by the racing sub-committee, racing awards will now be presented throughout the year, rather than waiting until the end of the season. In addition unused, but historically important trophies, will be repurposed and awarded for first place in a series, with second and third places receiving wine (or an alternative) prizes.
On Sunday the winner of the Early Spring Series will be awarded the Jack Frodsham Memorial Shield, last awarded in 2021 to Dave Thomas (Solo class award). This will be immediately after the race results have been calculated on Sunday and we are very pleased to welcome back to the club Gladys Frodsham, who will present the winner with the trophy. We will share more about Jack and Gladys in our coverage of the presentation on Sunday.
Sailing secretary Simon Dolman commented: we have a proud heritage within the club and the repurposing of unused trophies to celebrate current successes is a powerful way to remember some of the many members who were instrumental in founding and developing our club over many years..
Trophies will remain in the club house but will be engraved with the winners name. It is hoped that as many members as possible will attend the presentation on Sunday.
