Early Spring Series - winds variable!

Winds variable summed up the first two races of the Early Spring Series. 19 boats took to the water on what was a superb spring day, complete with a gentle breeze and bright sunshine. With the direction and strength of the breeze changing by the minute, Race Officer Dave Thomas went with a full lake course for race 1. Eric Haselden (Supernova) duelled throughout the race with Kieran Lewis (Aero 7), Eric finally sneaking ahead to take race 1 with Jeremy Cooper taking 3rd place.
With a shorter course set for race 2, it looked as though a similar result was on the cards, but a sudden increase in the wind saw the fleet making up the distance with Eric and Kieran in the final stage of the race, dramatically changing the final positions. Jeremy Cooper in his Lightning took the best advantage and top spot, followed by Mark Heaton (Lightning) and Joe Sergeant (Laser Radial).
Overall after two races the podium positions are: 1. Jeremy Cooper (Lightning), 2. Mark Heaton (Lightning), 3. Eric Haselden (Supernova).
In the afternoon Gwyn, Dave T, Ian D and Simon D ran a taster session for potential new members, which went down really well and will hopefully lead to more people taking part in Shotwick Lake water sports.
