Watson clean sweep!
Published 16:57 on 10 May 2026
Oh it was so tempting to go with - Watson streaking away with the series! But is there a glimmer of hope for the chasing pack? In the afternoon race Phil Watson was nearly beaten, pushed hard by Shan Stapley, singlehanded in her Mirror. Only one second (corrected time) separated the two boats at the finish line, but Phil managed to sneak across the line first, maintaining his winning performance. But he had an anxious wait at the finish. Discussions on the club WhatsApp group questioned whether Phil had put in a special tack or Shan had stumbled during a gybe. Well never know, but does this signal a potential change in the running order with Phil being potentially beatable after all, or will his winning streak continue. Next week will tell us the answer!
Sailing secretary Simon Dolman commented on the day: Well done everyone - a great days sailing! Fantastic to see such a strong and mixed fleet and our newest sailors: Stuart, Silvia and Paul all progressing well. But can anyone stop Phil Watson? A clean sweep!!! Congratulations.
Thanks also to the OOD/Safety boat team for the day: Doug Pinch, Sandy Mill, Geoff Weir and Ian Duncan
